What is prophecy? Why does it exist?
From the beginning of time, human beings have longed to know what lies ahead. We search for signs, create systems, and study patternsâeven something as ordinary as weather forecasting reflects our desire to predict the future. Everyone wants to know the future. Who wouldnât? People want to know who committed a crime, who abducted a loved one, or what hidden truth lies behind a situation. These are mysteries only God can fully reveal.
But the real question is this: Will God reveal these secrets? And if He does, whom will He choose to reveal them to?
Only God can speak with absolute certainty about the future. He is omniscient. He sees the end from the beginning, and only He can declare what has not yet happened. Yet today, many people attempt to prophesy on their own, without Godâs calling or guidance. Some even sell books or run websites claiming prophetic authority. But before anyone speaks in Godâs name, they must first know whether they have truly been called and ordained by Him.
God reveals the secrets of this world and the mysteries of what is to come, only to those He chooses. These individuals, whom Scripture calls prophets, receive dreams, visions, and divine understanding. Anyone who claims prophetic authority without Godâs calling, without God truly speaking to them, is simply a false prophet.
Prophecy exists because God Himself designed the future, the events that will unfold, and the meaning behind dreams and visions. He alone provides the interpretation of the symbols and messages He reveals.
This is the purpose of prophecy: to help us understand what God has already spoken about the days ahead. We are living in the last days, and our time on this earth is not unlimited. Scripture describes our generation as a prophetic generation, living in the closing chapters of human history. God knows exactly what will unfold next because He is the Author of history, and only He can bring this worldâs story to its final conclusion.
Jesus Himself warned us about these times. He gave prophecy not to frighten us, but to prepare us. He said:
âWatch out that no one deceives you. For many will come in my name, claiming, âI am the Messiah,â and will deceive many⊠And many false prophets will appear and deceive many people⊠At that time if anyone says to you, âLook, here is the Messiah!â or âThere he is!â do not believe it. For false messiahs and false prophets will appear and perform great signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect. See, I have told you ahead of time. So, if anyone tells you, âThere he is, out in the wilderness,â do not go out; or, âHere he is, in the inner rooms,â do not believe it.â
Prophecy is Godâs way of saying: I am guiding history. I am warning you. I am preparing you. Listen, so you will not be deceived.
